SPRING CLEANING WITH HOMEMADE SOLUTIONS
Warmer weather and blooming flowers means spring has officially arrived, which means it is time for spring cleaning.
What better way to clean your home than with common products you already use?
Common household items can be used in many ways to freshen up the house. Here are five ways to get a head start on cleaning your home this season:
Window Cleaner
1 cup rubbing alcohol
1 cup water
1 tablespoon white vinegar
Mix these ingredients in a spray bottle and you have one tough window cleaner! From windows to coffee tables, this home mix will clean any glass surface to a polished shine.
Drain Cleaner
1 cup baking soda
1 cup salt
¼ cup cream of tartar
Measure a quarter cup of this mix and pour it into the clogged drain. Follow that with two cups of boiling water. After an hour your drains will run like new.
Chemical-free Wood Polish
2 parts olive oil
1 part lemon juice
Mix together in a spray bottle. Apply to surface and polish with a soft cloth. This will leave your furniture shining without using harsh chemicals.
Homemade Dishwasher Detergent
1 cup Borax™
1 cup baking soda
½ cup citric acid
½ cup salt
Use to clean those messy barbeque dishes. The added salt works as a gritty scrubbing agent. Use vinegar as a rinsing agent and dry as usual.
Homebrew Oven Cleaner
5 tablespoons baking soda
5 drops of dish soap
4 tablespoons vinegar
Mix into a paste. Coat the paste everywhere inside the oven with a sponge. Let sit for 15 minutes and then scrub away. Perfect for cleaning up those Memorial Day cooking disasters!
